Building and pest inspections help you discover pests before they can cause too much damage to your home. Insects can cause more damage than you might imagine and watching for signs of infestation can help. There are better times of year to arrange for inspections as well as some signs you can watch for that can indicate you might have termites or wood boring insects.

Watching for Termites

Termite inspections should be done during the high season which is early
spring, through summer & autumn. Having regular inspections will allow a professional Pest Control expert to check out timber and common termite entry points. Building and pest inspections can identify timber problems and offer solutions should they discover any issues. Your local council can also assist with the amount of inspections required in your location. Once damage is discovered you do not have to be overly worried. The point of the inspection is to catch issues early on so that they can do a complete investigation and come up with options to clear your home of the infestation. If you think you see signs of termites call a professional, as household sprays can do more harm than good. You might see winged termites around your home but this could just mean there is a nest nearby and they are on their annual flight. If you do see large numbers of flying termites arrange for building and pest inspections to be safe.

Wood Boring Insects

If you notice holes in wood in your home you might have wood boring insects. These pesky bugs actually tunnel through wood as larva and then leave holes when they emerge from the wood as beetles. The sign of pin holes is a good indication you have wood boring insects. You can knock at a piece of timber in your home and if you see dust this could mean you still have active borers. This is not always the case so it is a good idea to have a building and pest inspection to be safe. You can also mark holes and then check intermittently to see if new holes have appeared. This will indicate you still have active beetles. For multiple holes you can also place a piece of paper at the foot of the timber and check for new dust. However as long as there is dust in the timber even walking on the floor boards above can continue to loosen the dust long after the beetles have left the home. That is why it is best to have an inspection to confirm if you have active beetles or not.
