In recent years, there has begun a strong move towards green homes. While some new home builders in Prescott have embraced the idea and its ideals, others have been slower to follow. Building green is the practical application of technology, skills and concepts. Its intent is to make a new home environmentally friendly – Green.

Ways to Accomplish This

A builder who is intent in becoming green has various options. It actually depends upon the definition he and his preferred clients have of the term “green.” For some, green simply means making the house as energy efficient as possible. This may involve providing green appliances. Everything is high efficiency from air conditioners to water heaters.

Other home builders perceive being green as including the actual construction material. They use energy efficient material. They also incorporate recycled materials. In addition, green new home builders turn to less volatile materials. They may be flame retardant but they are free of any toxic chemicals that are released into the home along with that “New Home Smell.”

For those who are customizing their homes, green means utilizing other types of energy. This may mean geothermal, wind and/or solar. Home builders can comply with these requests, particularly if the home is a customized one.

Who Makes New Home Builders Green

In order to be considered truly green, the new home builders such as R.E.S. Contracting must have passed tests and gained acceptance or approval by one or more associations. Among the most common ones who provide builders with the right provenance are:

1. EnergyStar: The program with the highest profile. Homes under this program must meet strict guidelines concerning energy efficiency.

2. LEED for Homes: This rating system concerns itself with the design and actual construction of homes based on green principles of energy and natural resource usage.

3. National Green Building Program: This is a standard set by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).  Certification under this program hales to clarify and set Green principles and standards among builders.

When it comes to building green homes, new home builders in Prescott like R.E.S. Contracting have a choice. They can follow strict standards set by national, state and local bodies. They can also simply incorporate green ideas into the design and construction phases. In the end it is the clients themselves that will decide what options will serve best.
