Most people don’t really consider their floors because it’s just something to walk on. However, updating the flooring of your entire home can add a new take on your house, making it look great. In many cases, flooring is less expensive than an entire house remodel project and can make your house look beautiful, new and different. There are many flooring options to choose from, so it is important to understand a little about each one to make an informed decision.

Carpet

Most San Antonio homes have carpet flooring in living rooms and bedrooms. This is because carpet feels good on your feet and you can do many great things with the coloring to present the best look for the area. However, many people shy away from carpet because it can trap allergens and dirt and must be cleaned frequently. Most people are now considering hardwood floors in living rooms and bedrooms to cut down on the allergens.

Hardwood Flooring

This type of floor option can be used in bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms and almost any room in the San Antonio home. However, the type of hardwood you select will be a determining factor. Solid and engineered hardwood are both available and both are easy to clean and very durable. Over time, though, the surface can be damaged and scratched and if you live in a household with pets and children, this could cause stain problems and other various problems to the floor. Therefore, choosing a solid hardwood may be better for you, as it can be refinished and sanded many times throughout its life.

Laminate

There are two types of laminate—floating and glued. Almost all laminate flooring can start out as floating laminate and you simply glue it down so it doesn’t cause bumps and won’t tear as easily. This works really well in bathrooms and kitchens, because it is easy to clean and durable.

However, the finishing layer can sometimes become worn and laminate can start to look dirty quicker, even with proper washing.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is another great choice for bathrooms and kitchens because it is durable. While easy to clean, the grout in between the tiles can sometimes become dingy and cracks are dominant over time.

Commercial grout cleaners are available to help remove stains and dirt from the tile so that it can be used for many more years. Tile works well as bathroom flooring, shower walls and backsplash walls in the kitchen.
